Abstract
Students in the eighth semester nursing departmend of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo frequently struggle with insomnia or sleep disorders and difficult to maintain sleep quality. This occurs as a result of unfavorable lifestyles, with excessive caffeine consumption and depression being the key factors, and students are frequently negligenting about it. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between insomnia and depression among eighth-semester of Nursing students, Faculty of Health Sciences at Muhammadiyah University Ponorogo. The research design was a correlational cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was 62 students, with a sample size of 62 taken by using the total sampling technique. The data collection process used a questionnaire with chi square α (0,05) analysis. The study's findings from the 62 respondents revealed that 3 respondents (4.8%) had non-depression insomnia, 16 respondents (25.8%) had non-depression insomnia, 8 respondents (12.9%) had initial insomnia non-depression, and 23 respondents (37.1%) had initial insomnia depression. A total of 1 respondent (1.6%) experienced moderate clinical insomnia who was not depressed, and 6 respondents (9.7%) experienced moderate clinical insomnia who were depressed. A total of 4 respondents (6.5%) had severe clinical insomnia without depression, and 1 respondent (1.6%) had severe clinical insomnia with depression. Based on the findings of the statistical analysis, it was discovered that the p-value was (0.029) ≤ (0.05), indicating that there is a relationship between insomnia and depression in eigth semester nursing students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. This study's findings support the hypothesis that depression and insomnia are related. Poor sleep habits may increase insomnia; thus, eighth-semester nursing bachelor students should avoid insomnia by having good sleeping patterns.
