Comparative Study of Professional Teacher Concepts in the Thoughts of Munif Chatib and Buya Hamka and Their Relevance to Pedagogical Competence of Islamic Education Teachers in Indonesia. (II) Dr. Aldo Redho Syam, M.Pd.I Keywords: Professional Teacher Concept, Munif Chatib, Buya Hamka, Pedagogical Competence, Islamic Education Teacher Teachers are pivotal figures in the success of every student's learning journey; the advancement or regression of education quality is determined by the quality of teachers. Therefore, becoming a teacher requires one to assume the role of a professional educator, responsible for the educational success of their students. Thus, it is important for both current and prospective teachers to understand the professionalism of teachers. including education figures in Indonesia who discuss teacher professionalism such as Munif Chatib and Buya Hamka. The objectives of this research are (a) to identify and describe the concepts of professional teachers according to Munif Chatib and Buya Hamka, (b) to compare the similarities and differences in the concepts of professional teachers according to Munif Chatib and Buya Hamka, and (c) to determine the relevance of the concepts of professional teachers according to Munif Chatib and Buya Hamka to the pedagogical competence of Islamic Education teachers in Indonesia. The researcher conducted a literature study using historical and philosophical approaches. This research is descriptive, comparative, and analytical. Data collection was carried out using documentation techniques. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis and comparison methods. The findings of the researcher are (a) according to Munif Chatib, the concept of a professional teacher is that the teacher is a human being who views each student as a champion, teaches with heart, adapts teaching style to student learning styles by considering the 8 intelligences (multiple intelligences), maintains lesson plans, and engages in lifelong learning. According to Buya Hamka, a professional teacher is knowledgeable, keeps up with the times, and serves as a role model for their students. (b) The similarities in the concept of professional teachers according to Munif Chatib and Buya Hamka are that professional teachers always continue to learn, keep up with the times, serve as role models for their students, teach sincerely, and seek the pleasure of Allah SWT. The differences in the concept of professional teachers are that, according to Munif, teachers adapt teaching to the learning styles of their students by considering the 8 human intelligences (Multiple Intelligences) and maintain lesson plans. According to Buya Hamka, a professional teacher is a teacher who is faithful, expands their students' career opportunities, instills moral values, and acts as a parent to their students. (c) All criteria of professional teachers as revealed by Munif Chatib and Buya Hamka are essential for a teacher, especially Islamic Education teachers in Indonesia. Therefore, the thoughts of Munif Chatib and Buya Hamka are relevant to the pedagogical competence of Islamic Education teachers in Indonesia.
