Lutfhiatuul Romadhoni Linda. 2024. Title “The Role of the Family in Supporting the Growth and Development of 6 Year Old Children with Intellectual Limitations at Aisyiyah Sawoo Ponorogo Kindergarten”. THESIS. Islamic Psychology Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Religion, Muhammadiyah University, Ponorogo. Supervisor 1: Dr. Muh Tajab., M.A. and Supervisor 2: Dr. Wahyudi Setiawan., M. Pd. I. Keywords: family role, family support, child growth and development, intellectual barriers. Old 6 year children with intellectual disabilities may face developmental challenges in several aspects including cognitive, social and emotional. Families can create a supportive environment for children with intellectual disabilities. Families can also work with professionals to get advice or input to support their child's growth and development. Providing a safe and healthy environment will help children feel comfortable and focus more on brand development. Therefore, the family can be the main source in facilitating the growth and development of their children. This research aims to (1) Understand the needs of children in educational programs, (2) Understand the role of parents in educating, and (3) Increase support for the growth and development of children with intellectual disabilities. The method used in this research is qualitative. The data collection technique consists of 3 stages, namely the observation stage, interview stage and documentation stage. The subjects of this research were Kindergarten B class students at Aisyiyah Sawoo Kindergarten, Ponorogo. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that understanding intellectual barriers in children can help create learning strategies that are more appropriate and useful for children with intellectual development barriers. Meanwhile, parents can use support models, namely family support models, social environment support models, educational support models, and behavior at school.
