Abstract

Keywords: Modified flashcard, DMS, writing This study is based on the importance of writing. Writing is a vital skill in basic knowledge development. It has many advantages to develop students’ writing ability at school. It will provide them to be more critical about everything around them by transferring their ideas through writing. In this research, the researcher used modified flashcard to increase writing skill. Flashcard that consists of several reliable pictures are hoped to be the alternatives of the teaching writing in fun way. The researcher used flashcard because flashcard as one of teaching media is an interesting aid in teaching to activate the students in learning process and most of them are interested. This study is a classroom action research that was done in two cycles. Each cycle consist of two meeting. The researcher used test and observation to collect the data. To analyze the data, descriptive quantitative analysis is used; it is to present the result of study in the form of descriptive explanation. Statistic analysis is used to analyze the data about the improvement of students’ writing ability. Result of the study showed that the use of modified flashcard in teaching writing at the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Kebonsari in The Academic Year of 2016/2017had increased students’ writing ability. This finding successfully could be seen from the result of students’ average score and good responses. The result after getting all of the treatment using modified flashcard, the students’ achievement average score increased in line with the increase of the students’ achievement average score in each cycle. Students’ average score at the first cycle is 80.95, second cycle was 90.67.The result of this study is helpful information for English teachers in teaching writing.
