Abstract

A photojournalistic work as a substitute for this thesis entitled 'Jathil Dance of Horse Soldiers as Accompanying Reog Ponorogo' was registered at Intellectual Property Rights, Ministry of Law and Human Rights on December 28, 2022 number EC002022114358. With registration number 000430102. This journalistic photo work is an original work that I took during the grebeg suro series at Ponorogo Square on July 21 2022 with the aim of providing understanding, knowledge and education to the public and the younger generation about the jathil dance which is part of the original art of Reog Ponorogo , so that its sustainability is maintained and to fortify it from being eroded by very strong foreign cultures entering Indonesia. This work tells the story of the jathil dance which is part of the Reog Ponorogo art, which was originally played by male dancers dressed up like graceful women. But along with the times, since around 1980 jathil has been played by women who have beautiful and graceful looks. Played by these women for reasons of beauty and decency. In its appearance, this jathil dance is divided into two versions, namely the version that accompanies Reog Obyog, where there are not many rules in playing it and it is played in open places or fields or streets that move dynamically according to the situation and conditions where it is played. The second version is the studio version which is neatly arranged, rampak and simultaneously follows the direction of an art choreographer who has specifically studied the jathil dance and is usually played at certain events, one of which is played at festival events. Keywords: Jathil, Jathil Dancer, Photos of Jathil, Reog, Reog Ponorogo,
