Abstract

Key words: Writing Skill, Experiential Learning Writing is one of important language skills used by students in English lesson. This reality make teacher think that writing skill should be mastered by the students. In SMPN 1 Balong showed that the skill writing was low. The problems because of lack of vocabulary mastery and the English teacher usually used monotonous method. To solve the problem above the researcher used Experiential Learning method to teach writing. The statement of problem of this research is: how can experiental learning method improve students’ writing skill of recount text at the eight grade students of SMPN 1 Balong in the academic year of 2015/2016. The purpose of study of this research was: To know the improvement of students writing skill of recount text by using experiental learning method at the eight grade students of SMPN 1 Balong in academic year of 2015/2016. The research design used by researcher is classroom action research. It consisted of several steps covering planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The research was conducted in SMP N 1 Balong started on April 25th 2016 until May 7th 2016. The subject in this research is class VIIIB that consists of 20 students. The research was conducted in two cycles. The writer used three instruments. There are Observation, Questionnaire and Test. Based on the result of this research, The implementation of Experiential Learning method was improved students’ writing skill of recount text at the eight grade students of SMPN 1 Balong Ponorogo in academic year 2015/2016. It can be seen from the improvement of students’ score from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The observation result showed that the students become active during teaching learning process. It can be seen from the total of the first observation check list is 74.58% in cycle 1 up to 92.72% in cycle 2. The questionnaire’s result showed that the students were interested in this method. It can be seen from the total of questionnaire 1 is 72.5% and the questionnaire 2 is 81.25%. The students’ percentage who reached KKM in cycle 1 was 55% up to 100% in cycle 2. Finally, the researcher suggests for the English teachers that can apply experiential learning in teaching writing recount text. Besides, English teacher should always give motivation to the students to learn English well and understand student’s need and characteristics. To Next Researcher, this thesis can be a reference for those who whould like to continue this research or conduct a research with some case.
