Abstract

The students at VIIB of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic year 2017/2018 felt difficult to practice in English especially in listening. The purpose of this study is found out how “What It Is” game can improve the students’ listening skill by using “What It Is” game. The subject of this research was the students at 7th grade, which consisted of 17 students of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic year 2017/2018. The research was started on July 27th, 2017 until August 3rd, 2017. The research was conducted for two cycles. The researcher used three instruments, there were observation checklist, questionnaire checklist, and test. The researcher in this research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). Based on the result of this research, the implementation of “What It Is” game method was improving students’ listening skill at the seventh grade of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. It can be seen from the result of observation checklist is 79.16 % in cycle I up to 91.66% in cycle II. The questionnaire’s result showed that the students were motivated and interested in this method. It can be seen from the result or questionnaire I is 73.08 % and the questionnaire II is 77.20%. The students’ percentage the result did not reach the minimum score 75. In the cycle 1, there were all students failed and up to 100% in cycle II. Finally based on the data, the researcher concluded that the implementation of “What It Is” game to improve the students’ listening skill at the 7th grade of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic year 2017/2018 was successful. The researcher suggested to the next researcher can be reference to continue this research.
