Abstract

Students’ numeracy skills at SMPN 1 Bungkal remain low. In fact, numeracy is an essential skill that students need to master, considering its strategic role in helping them formulate solutions to various mathematical problems in real-life contexts. This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of implementing the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning model on the numeracy skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Bungkal.
This research is a quantitative study with an experimental type using a posttest-only control group design. The study was conducted at SMPN 1 Bungkal with a population consisting of all eighth-grade students, divided into six classes. Among these, classes VIII E and VIII F were randomly selected as samples using cluster random sampling. Data collection techniques used in this study included documentation, questionnaires, and tests. The research instruments consisted of student report cards, validation sheets for teaching modules, student worksheets (LKPD), test questions, and numeracy test items. Data analysis to examine the effect of the CPS model on students’ numeracy skills was performed using the independent sample t-test.
The results showed that the average posttest score of students in the experimental class was 82.76, higher than that of the control class, which was 76.72. Based on hypothesis testing, the significance value (2-tailed) was 0.000, which is less than 0.05. The conclusion of this study is that the implementation of the CPS learning model has an effect on the numeracy skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Bungkal. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers apply the CPS model in mathematics learning to improve students’ numeracy skills, especially in contextual and applicable material.
