Islamic Religious Education plays an important role in shaping students’ character, especially in instilling Islamic values such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, and mutual respect. At Madrasah Salafiyah Ula Nashrus Sunnah in Madiun City, Islamic Religious Education is not only taught as a formal subject but also integrated into daily learning activities, behavior habituation, and teacher role modeling. This is in line with the goal of Islamic education, which aims to form morally upright individuals who are balanced in both worldly and spiritual aspects.
This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were the head of the madrasah, Islamic Religious Education teachers, and fourth to sixth grade students who were directly involved in the character formation process. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The results of the study indicate that the implementation of Islamic Religious Education at Madrasah Salafiyah Ula Nashrus Sunnah is effective through the integration of character values, teacher role modeling, and habituation of Islamic values in daily life. The character values instilled include religiosity, honesty, discipline, responsibility, and care. The obstacles in this process include limited instructional time, variations in students’ individual character, and negative influences from external media on student behavior.
