Abstract

ABSTRACT

Rifaldan, Lalan. 2025. THESIS. Parental Intervention in Fostering Academic Achievement Motivation Among Adolescents in the Sang Musafir Ponorogo Community. Supervisor 1: Dr. Syarifan Nurjan, M.A. Supervisor II: Devid Dwi Erwahyudin, M.Pd.

Keywords: parental intervention, academic achievement motivation, adolescents in the Sang Musafir Ponorogo community

The main issue in this study is the low academic achievement motivation among adolescents, which is caused by various developmental challenges during adolescence, including emotional, social, and environmental changes, as well as weak support or intervention from parents. Adolescents in the Sang Musafir Ponorogo Community, who come from outside the area and face adaptation challenges and new environmental pressures, exhibit symptoms such as truancy, lack of enthusiasm for learning, and deviant behavior such as smoking in the school environment. This phenomenon reflects the suboptimal role of parents in providing the guidance, support, and motivation needed to support their children's academic achievement. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate how parental intervention can play a role in reviving adolescents' academic motivation, particularly in that community environment.

This study aims to identify the forms of parental intervention in fostering academic motivation among adolescents in the Sang Musafir Ponorogo community. Additionally, this study explains the factors that support and hinder parents in providing interventions to adolescents in the Sang Musafir Ponorogo community. A qualitative method with a descriptive approach was used in this study. The research employed data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation as supporting data to address the two research focuses.

This study found that parental intervention includes guiding children's learning activities, providing motivation in the form of advice, and providing support by giving small gifts, such as extra pocket money. Furthermore, this study revealed the supporting and inhibiting factors faced by parents in fostering academic achievement motivation. Supportive factors include open communication, emotional closeness between children and parents, democratic parenting styles, and active parental involvement in children's daily lives. Hindering factors include economic limitations, lack of free time for parents, difficult-to-manage adolescent behavior, and challenges in controlling social media use. Parental and family interventions, through supervision, verbal motivation, and emotional support, have been proven to positively impact the improvement of adolescents' motivation and academic achievement. This support not only changes learning behavior but also fosters self-awareness, discipline, and better social relationships. Family involvement is a key factor in supporting adolescents' academic development, particularly within the Sang Musafir Community in Ponorogo.
