Traffic violations constitute a serious problem that directly affects road safety and traffic order. Ponorogo Regency, as an area with increasing community mobility, faces various types of traffic violations, particularly those committed by motorcycle riders. This condition indicates that although traffic regulations have been clearly stipulated in Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, public compliance remains relatively low. The problem is not merely related to legal aspects, but is also influenced by individual behavior, social factors, and traffic culture within the community.
The research problems addressed in this study are: (1) what types of traffic violations most frequently occur in Ponorogo Regency, (2) what factors influence the occurrence of traffic violations from behavioral and social perspectives, and (3) how law enforcement contributes to reducing traffic violations. This study aims to comprehensively analyze traffic violations as a basis for formulating recommendations to improve road safety.
This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data. The data were collected through documentation and literature studies from police reports, the Central Statistics Agency, statutory regulations, and relevant online sources. Data analysis was conducted using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques.
The results show that traffic violations in Ponorogo Regency are dominated by failure to wear helmets, disobeying traffic signs, and the use of mobile phones while driving. The main factors contributing to these violations include low legal awareness, a permissive traffic culture, and inconsistent law enforcement. This study concludes that efforts to reduce traffic violations require an integrated approach through continuous education, strict law enforcement, and the use of visual media and traffic safety campaigns.
