ABSTRACT
Muhammad Akmaludin (22150502). The Influence of Parents’ Roles on the Learning Interest of Sixth Grade Students at SD Islam Arrisalah Slahung Ponorogo. Supervisor I: Nanang Cendriono, M.Pd. and Supervisor II: Riyanto, M.Pd.I.

Keywords: Parents’ Role, Learning Interest, Sixth Grade Students.

This study was motivated by the importance of parents’ roles in shaping elementary school students’ learning interest. Based on observations and interviews with sixth grade teachers at SD Islam Arrisalah Slahung Ponorogo, there were still students who showed low enthusiasm in learning, were inactive during classroom activities, and often failed to complete assignments. In addition, some students only studied when instructed by their parents and relied more on tutoring institutions outside the home. These conditions became the basis for conducting research on the influence of parents’ roles on the learning interest of sixth grade students.

This study aimed to determine the influence of parents’ roles on the learning interest of sixth grade students at SD Islam Arrisalah Slahung Ponorogo. The study used a quantitative method with a causal associative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through Likert-scale questionnaires distributed to 92 students. The questionnaire process was conducted gradually by calling students one by one and directly assisting them to ensure their understanding of each statement. Interviews were also conducted as supporting data related to students’ learning habits and parental involvement at home. Data were analyzed using validity, reliability, normality, linearity, simple linear regression, and hypothesis testing.

The results showed that parents’ roles had a positive and significant influence on students’ learning interest, with a significance value smaller than 0.05 (p < 0.05), meaning that the research hypothesis was accepted. The t-count value of 9.705 was greater than the t-table value of 1.987. The coefficient of determination (R Square) of 51.1% indicated that variations in students’ learning interest were influenced by parents’ roles, while the remaining 48.9% were influenced by other factors outside the study. Observations and interviews also revealed that some students still lacked parental guidance, motivation, and supervision in learning, which affected their enthusiasm and independence in learning. Therefore, the better the parents’ role, the higher the students’ learning interest.
