This research was conducted in response to the phenomenon of low awareness of living space hygiene, a lack of concern for the cleanliness of private rooms, the habit of littering, and the neglect of public facilities and the surrounding environment. Furthermore, there is a worsening environmental crisis characterised by pollution, global warming, and a lack of public concern for nature conservation. These issues are not only related to scientific aspects but also signify a moral and spiritual decline within society. In this context, Islamic education through learning based on the values of the Qur’an is considered strategic in fostering ecological awareness amongst pupils, with teachers acting as educators, mentors, facilitators and role models. The aim of this study is to analyse the role of teachers in fostering ecological awareness amongst pupils through Qur’anic education at MA Darul Fikri Ponorogo. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilising field research and a case study design. Data collection was carried out through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation, whilst data analysis utilised the Miles and Huberman model, which encompasses data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research findings indicate that teachers play a crucial role in instilling ecological awareness through the integration of Qur’anic values into environmental education, fostering habits of clean living and waste management, and reinforcing the concepts of khalifah, amanah and mizan amongst students. The implementation of this Qur’an-based learning has had a positive impact on improving pupils’ knowledge, concern and practical behaviour in protecting the environment, both at school and in their daily lives. Factors supporting this research include the madrasah’s religious culture, the boarding school environment, and the exemplary behaviour of teachers, whilst inhibiting factors include limited facilities and varying levels of awareness amongst pupils regarding the importance of environmental conservation.
