This research is motivated by the fact that fourth-grade students at MI Muhammadiyah 10 Yanggong Ponorogo still lack optimal Quran reading skills, both in terms of fluency and tajweed accuracy. Quran reading is a fundamental skill that is crucial for learning the Quran and Hadith. Therefore, appropriate teacher strategies are needed to improve these skills. This study aims to: (1) describe teacher strategies for improving Quran reading skills in the Quran and Hadith subject, (2) determine the results of the strategies implemented, and (3) identify supporting and inhibiting factors in the learning process.
This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. The subjects were the principal, the Quran and Hadith teacher, and fourth-grade students. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
The research results show that teachers' strategies for improving Quranic recitation skills are implemented through careful lesson planning, the use of methods such as talaqqi (recitation), tahsin (recitation), individual approaches, and repeated practice (drill). Teachers also utilize learning media and provide motivation to students to increase their interest in learning. The results of implementing these strategies indicate an improvement in students' Quranic recitation skills, as indicated by increased reading fluency, accuracy in pronouncing the hijaiyah letters, and basic understanding of tajweed (recitation). Furthermore, students become more active and motivated in participating in learning.
Supporting factors in learning include students' basic abilities, appropriate learning strategies, media availability, a religious school environment, and parental support. Inhibiting factors include differences in student abilities, lack of family support, time constraints, and students' psychological conditions. Overall, the teachers' strategies implemented are quite effective in improving students' Quranic recitation skills, but they still need development and innovation to optimally accommodate the needs of all students.
