This study was motivated by the importance of fostering students' religious character from an early age through sustainable habituation. Although the Great Indonesian Children's Habit Movement has been implemented in various educational institutions, the process of internalizing religious values among students continues to face several challenges. Therefore, this study aims to describe the actualization of the Great Indonesian Children's Habit Movement in fostering religious character at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Pesantren Anak Sholeh Baitul Qur'an Gontor and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation.
This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The research was conducted at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Pesantren Anak Sholeh Baitul Qur'an Gontor. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, student affairs coordinator, tahfidz teachers, homeroom teachers, physical education teachers, nutrition staff, and parents of the students as research informants. The data were analyzed through the processes of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source, technique, and time triangulation.
The findings revealed that the Great Indonesian Children's Habit Movement has been actualized through seven habituation programs integrated into the pesantren culture, namely the Blessed Dawn Movement, the Worship and Love for the Qur'an Movement, the Healthy and Strong Living Movement, the Halal, Healthy, and Respectful Eating Movement, the Sincere Learning and Responsibility Movement, the Noble Character and Islamic Brotherhood Movement, and the Orderly and Sunnah Rest Movement. The implementation of these programs contributes significantly to the development of students' religious character in terms of faith, worship, morality, discipline, responsibility, and social awareness. Supporting factors include the madrasah's commitment, teachers' exemplary behavior, the pesantren culture, and parental support. In contrast, inhibiting factors include the influence of the digital environment, differences in students' backgrounds, and the lack of optimal guidance within the family. This study contributes a habituation-based model for developing religious character that may serve as a reference for strengthening character education in Islamic elementary schools.
