Abstract

The development of energy sources is very important, such as wind energy, solar energy, and so on. This project aims to introduce electrical energy to remote areas by utilizing the potential in a region. Because current energy sources are still focused on the use of fossil energy sources that are increasingly depleted. So many scientists are experimenting with creating the use of water energy where this energy is very abundant in Indonesia. Many types of water turbines have been created, such as in Germany developing electrical technology using water vortex flow with the working principle of fluids that flow then experience sudden changes and create vortices that push the blades to move. The purpose of this study was to determine the torque power, and efficiency of the vortex turbine by varying the water discharge and the number of blades 4,5,6,7. This research method is a quantitative approach method with the form of experimental research. Test data with a fixed inclination angle of 41 ° obtained the effect of variations in water discharge and the number of blades on turbine performance with variables of head, discharge, blade mass, and vorticity. From the study it is known that when the number of blades increases, the performance of the turbine will be damaged because the vortex that functions to rotate the turbine experiences a greater moment of inertia. The results of the study also show that to produce maximum power on the vortex turbine, the number of blades used is 4 and the power coefficient is 30.095% when the water discharge is 7.8 liters/second. So the more the number of blades only tends to eliminate the vortex current in the conical basin. So that the variation of the blades the power produced by the turbine decreases.
