Abstract
Emissions and noise are negative impacts emitted by motor vehicles. Vehicles that have a large impact on emissions and noise in the exhaust are 2-stroke vehicles. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of the effect of modifying the exhaust filter using activated carbon from aren dregs on exhaust emissions and noise on a 110.4cc Yamaha FIZR 2-stroke motorcycle. This test was carried out using a gas analyzer to determine the results of exhaust emissions and a sound level meter to determine the results of noise emitted from the exhaust. The test was carried out 3 times on each specimen using variations in carbonation temperatures of 300˚C, 400˚C, 500˚C, and variations in engine rpm of 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000. The results of the study showed that the lowest decrease in CO levels was obtained at an engine speed of 2000 rpm with a carbonation temperature of 500˚C with a decrease value of 0.42% from 2.89% to 2.47%. The lowest CO₂ levels were obtained at 6000 rpm with a carbonation temperature variation of 300˚C with a decrease of 0.3% from 1.13% to 0.83%. Further testing was carried out to determine the noise value of the FIZR 2-stroke 110.4cc exhaust before and after using the aren pulp activated carbon filter. The results of the noise test showed that the lowest noise reduction (dB) was obtained at 2000 rpm with a carbonation temperature of 500˚C getting a value of 99.43 dB compared to other tests which averaged a noise value of 100 dB and above. So it can be concluded in this study that the use of aren pulp activated carbon used as an exhaust filter can reduce exhaust emissions and noise levels in vehicle exhausts.
