THE RELATIONSHIP OF FAMILY SUPPORT WITH THE LEVEL OF DEPRESSION IN THE ELDERLY AT POSYANDU ELDERLY IN SOOKA VILLAGE, PACITAN DISTRICT

An elderly person has limitations in carrying out several activities and tends to depend on other people, this can trigger depression. Depression causes elderly people to experience various problems such as loss of feelings of happiness, eating and sleeping disorders, decreased concentration, etc. Family support can reduce the risk of depression in the elderly. Family support can be provided in the form of instrumental, informational, emotional and appreciation support. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and the level of depression in the elderly at the elderly posyandu in Sooka Village, Pacitan Regency.
This research uses a correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The population in the study were elderly posyandu participants in Sooka Village, Pacitan Regency. The sample was 33 respondents. Sampling used purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using a questionnaire, analyzed using the chi-square analysis test.
The results of data analysis showed that 24 respondents had good family support and 9 respondents had poor support. Meanwhile, 22 respondents did not experience depression, 7 respondents experienced mild depression and 4 respondents experienced moderate depression. The chi-square statistical test obtained p value = 0.001 < α = 0.05. So H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, which means there is a relationship between family support and the level of depression in the elderly at the elderly posyandu in Sooka Village, Pacitan Regency.
In this research it can be concluded that family support has an important role for the elderly, such as meeting the needs of the elderly, accompanying the elderly in carrying out activities, such as participating in posyandu activities and playing a role in preventing the causes of depression in the elderly. Elderly people are expected to be active in socialization so that they can improve their health and quality of life.
