Abstract
DWI WULAN SARI: The Effect of Mathematics Anxiety on Mathematical Modeling Ability of Grade VIII Students of MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Jenangan. Thesis. Ponorogo: Mathematics Education Study Program, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo, 2024.
This research aims to: (1) find out students' mathematics anxiety, (2) find out students' mathematical modeling ability, and (3) find out whether there is an influence
between mathematics anxiety and mathematical modeling ability of grade VIII students of MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Jenangan in the 2023/2024 academic year using statistical
analysis.
This research is a quantitative and qualitative research with the population includes all students of class VIII MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Jenangan consisting of two classes. Of the two classes, class VIII A was selected as the sample. Data collection techniques in this study were tests and non-tests. The instruments used to collect data include mathematics anxiety questionnaires and mathematical modeling ability test questions. Data analysis techniques to determine students' mathematics anxiety and mathematical
modeling ability were carried out using descriptive analysis, while to see whether there is an effect of mathematics anxiety on students' mathematical modeling ability, simple linear regression analysis was used.
The results showed that mathematics anxiety of students in class VIII MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Jenangan was in the low category. The students' mathematical modeling ability showed considerable variation, with some students having above average ability while others were far below. Based on the results of the simple linear regression test and the coefficient of determination test, it is found that mathematics anxiety affects students' mathematical modeling ability, although the effect is not very large. The relationship between the two is moderate, indicating that mathematics anxiety plays a role but is not strong enough to fully explain students' mathematical modeling ability. For future research, it is important to explore other factors that can influence students' mathematical modeling ability. In addition, it is necessary to develop intervention methods to overcome students' mathematics anxiety and innovations that can improve students' mathematical modeling ability.
