Abstract

ABSTRACT RELATIONSHIP FAMILY SUPPORT AND PREVENTION BEHAVIOR OF HYPERTENSION COMPLICATIONS IN THE ELDERLY Putry Sari Candra Dewi Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah Ponorogo University E-mail : putrysari1801@gmail.com
Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease that often occurs without clear signs and symptoms. This condition is a major concern because hypertension is a major risk factor that affects mortality in society. Complications of hypertension include heart disease, kidney disorders, peripheral vascular disease and stroke, all of which can lead to death. Given the serious impact of hypertension, it is important to identify factors that can affect the prevention of hypertension complications. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and behavior in preventing hypertension complications in the elderly at the Bendo Health Center. Descriptive quantitative research method to see support with elderly behavior related to prevention of hypertension complications. Cross sectional research design. The study population was elderly people of Bendo Health Center totaling 5,125 respondents. Sampling using Purposive Sampling. knowing the number of samples using the Slovin formula obtained 98 samples. The results of the study showed that good support was 61 respondents (62.2%) and poor behavior was 37 respondents (37.8%). Good behavior was 70 respondents (71.4%) and poor behavior was 28 respondents (28.6%). Analysis using the Chi Square Statistic Test for the relationship family support and behavior to prevent hypertension complications in the elderly obtained a p-value of 0.001 p <α (0.05) which means there is a relationship between family support and behavior to prevent hypertension complications in the elderly at the Bendo Health Center. It is hoped that families can provide support for the health and lifestyle of the elderly by providing preventive behavior for hypertension and the risk of complications that arise.
