Abstract

The rapid development of the digital era has had a significant impact on
parenting and child education, both in terms of the content delivered and the
media used. Amidst these challenges, Islamic educational values are essential as a
guiding framework for shaping children‘s character. Surah Luqman verses 12–19
serves as an important reference in the Qur‘an, containing key principles of child
education.
This study aims to analyze the concept of child education in Surah
Luqman verses 12–19 and examine its relevance to the challenges and needs of
child education in the digital age. Surah Luqman presents Luqman‘s essential
advice to his son, encompassing theological, moral, social, and ethical aspects.
The research employs a qualitative approach using the thematic exegesis
(maudhu‘i) method for the interpretation of the verses, along with literature
analysis to understand the context of contemporary digital education.
The method applied is library research with a qualitative approach,
focusing on the study and analysis of Ibn Kathir‘s Tafsir and other relevant
literature on Islamic education and the challenges of the digital era.
The findings reveal that Ibn Kathir interprets these verses as a
comprehensive guide to child education, encompassing eight core values:
monotheism (tawhid), gratitude, prohibition of polytheism, honoring parents,
establishing prayer, enjoining good and forbidding evil, patience, and etiquette in
speech. In the digital era, child education faces challenges such as unlimited
access to information, excessive gadget use, and a crisis of values. Therefore, an
educational approach is needed that balances technological competence with
spiritual values. The educational principles found in Surah Luqman remain highly
relevant as guidance for educating children and adolescents in the digital era, as
they foster strong spiritual, ethical, and social character amidst the fast-paced and
complex changes of modern times.
