Abstract

Helen Candra Puspita Dewi: Analysis of Critical Thinking Skills of Class VII H Students
of SMP Negeri 1 Jetis Reviewed from Self-Efficacy. Thesis. Department of Mathematics

Improving critical thinking skills at SMP Negeri 1 Jetis is a priority in learning,
implemented through the provision of practice questions that encourage students to think
critically. However, in practice, students often feel doubtful about the answers they obtain,
leading to dependence on their peers. This doubt can be related to students' level of
confidence in completing assignments, also known as self-efficacy. Therefore, this study
aims to describe the critical thinking skills of grade VII H students at SMP Negeri 1 Jetis
from a self-efficacy perspective.
This study used a qualitative descriptive approach with grade VII H students as
subjects. Students were given a self-efficacy questionnaire and then categorized into three
categories: high self-efficacy, medium self-efficacy, and low self-efficacy. After
categorization, students were given a critical thinking test and characterized based on their
performance. Two subjects were selected from each category based on their results,
followed by in-depth interviews.
The results showed that students with high self-efficacy achieved an average
critical thinking test score of 98. Students with high self-efficacy were able to meet all
critical thinking indicators according to Bloom's taxonomy, namely C4 (analyzing), C5
(evaluating), and C6 (creating), and were able to solve all three problems correctly.
Meanwhile, students with moderate self-efficacy achieved an average critical thinking test
score of 70. Students with moderate self-efficacy were only able to meet two critical
thinking indicators, namely C4 (analyzing) and C5 (evaluating). Meanwhile, students with
low self-efficacy achieved an average critical thinking test score of 50. Students with low
self-efficacy were only able to meet one indicator, namely C4 (analyzing).
