Abstract
ABSTRACT
RELATIONSHIP OF ATTITUDES AND MOTHERS' BEHAVIOR IN PREVENTING RECURRENT DIARRHEA IN TODDLERS
By: AYUNA PRADITA SARI
Mothers' attitudes are one of the factors related to preventing recurrent diarrhea in toddlers due to their higher risk of exposure to diarrhea. The government is promoting the management of recurrent diarrhea in households by increasing mothers' knowledge of prevention. Knowledge of diarrhea prevention in toddlers will influence their attitudes and actions regarding recurrent diarrhea. This study aims to determine the relationship between attitudes and maternal behavior in preventing recurrent diarrhea in toddlers.
This study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. All mothers with toddlers suffering from diarrhea at Aisyiyah Ponorogo General Hospital in 2024 had 667 cases, or an average of 56 patients per month, with a sample size of 30 respondents using accidental sampling. Data collection used a questionnaire and analysis using the SPSS Chi-square test and Fisher's Exact Test with a significance level of α 0.05.
The results of the study showed that the majority of 17 respondents (56.7%) had positive attitudes toward preventing recurrent diarrhea in toddlers, and the majority of 16 respondents (53.3%) had positive behaviors toward preventing recurrent diarrhea in toddlers. Based on the results of the SPSS Chi-square statistical test, the p-value = 0.009, which is less than α = 0.05, meaning Ho is rejected, indicating a relationship between maternal attitudes and behavior in preventing recurrent diarrhea in toddlers.
This study concludes that positive maternal attitudes play an important role in shaping positive behaviors in the prevention of recurrent diarrhea in toddlers, with a significant relationship between the two. It is recommended for health workers and related institutions to improve education through routine counseling and direct assistance, as well as for mothers of toddlers to habituate hygienic behavior and maintain the quality of food and drinks given to children.
