Abstract
Anggi Aidilla. 2025. THESIS The Effect of Peer Social Support on Anxiety Among Bil-ghoib Santriwati at Pondok Pesantren Tahfidzil Qur’an Al-Muqorrobin Ponorogo. Supervisor I: dr. Sri Susanti. Supervisor II: Yusuf Hamdani Abdi, M.Psi.
Keywords: Bil-ghoib, social support, anxiety, santriwati , juz promotion exam
Santriwati who memorize the Qur’an bil-ghoib often feel anxious when facing the Juz advancement examination because of the demand for flawless memorization, limited preparation time, and competition, while peer support that is expected to be helpful sometimes turns into additional pressure. This study focuses on two main aspects: the influence of peer social support on the anxiety of santriwati and the level of peer support they receive at PPTQ Al-Muqorrobin.
This study aims to examine the influence of peer social support on the anxiety levels of santriwati bil-ghoib in facing the ujian kenaikan juz at PPTQ Al-Muqorrobin, Siman District, Ponorogo.
The research employed a quantitative approach with a total population of 133 students. A sample of 100 respondents was obtained using random sampling based on the Slovin formula. Data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 27 for Windows, with simple linear regression used to test the hypothesis.
The results indicate that peer social support has a positive and significant effect on anxiety (B = 0.140; p = 0.043). This suggests that the higher the level of social support received, the higher the anxiety experienced by the students. These findings contradict the stress-buffering theory, which posits that social support serves as a protective factor against psychological stress. In this context, social support is perceived as pressure or heightened expectations, which may actually increase performance anxiety. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.041 indicates that peer social support contributes 4.1% to anxiety levels, while the remaining percentage is influenced by other factors outside the research model. Thus, while peer social support does affect anxiety among santriwati, its impact is not always calming.
