Abstract
ABSTRACK
Anis Nurchamidah. 2025. THESIS. The Relationship Between Stress Levels and
Dysmenorrhea Intensity Among Female Students at the PPTQ Al-Muqorrobin
Islamic Boarding School in Ponorogo. Advisor 1: Dr. Sri Susanti, MA. Advisor 2:
Yusuf Hamdani Abdi, M.Psi.
Keywords: Stress level, dysmenorrhea, pain intensity, female students, Islamic
boarding school.
Dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain commonly experienced by women of
reproductive age and has the potential to interfere with daily activities. One of the
factors suspected to influence the intensity of dysmenorrhea is stress level,
especially among female Islamic boarding school students (santriwati) who play a
dual role as students and thus face higher academic pressure. This study aims to
examine the relationship between stress levels and the intensity of dysmenorrhea
among santriwati at PPTQ Al-Muqorrobin Ponorogo.
This research employed a quantitative approach with an analytic observational
design using a cross-sectional method. A total of 87 santriwati were selected
through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a stress level
questionnaire and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to assess the intensity of
dysmenorrhea. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test.
The results showed that the majority of respondents experienced mild to moderate
stress (59.8%) and moderate menstrual pain (37.9%). The Chi-Square test
indicated no statistically significant relationship between stress levels and
dysmenorrhea intensity (p = 0.144). However, there was a tendency toward a
linear relationship, where higher stress levels were associated with more severe
menstrual pain, supported by the Linear-by-Linear Association test (p = 0.053).
In conclusion, although the relationship between stress levels and dysmenorrhea
intensity was not statistically significant, the findings suggest a linear trend that
warrants further investigation. Stress management remains essential in efforts to
reduce dysmenorrhea symptoms, particularly among female boarding school
students
