Abstract

The Directorate General of Islamic Education needs to further commit to continuously developing the values of Islamic moderation (Islam rahmatan lil alamin). Currently, there have been widespread calls for educational institutions to integrate the values of religious moderation into the development of their school-based curricula. This study focuses on the integration of religious moderation into the curriculum development at SMPN 10 Madiun. The integration process involves various interactive and participatory teaching methods, as well as the use of technology to enhance students’ understanding of the importance of religious moderation. The resulting school culture not only shapes students with strong religious knowledge but also encourages the development of tolerant, empathetic, and diversity-sensitive individuals.
This study employs a qualitative research approach. The data collected are not limited to numerical figures but also include narrative insights derived from interviews and in-depth observations, allowing for a comprehensive conclusion. This research is descriptive in nature. Data collection techniques used include interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis technique is divided into three parallel flows: data condensation, data display, and drawing/validating conclusions.
The results of this research show: 1) The policy of implementing religious moderation values in the School-Based Curriculum (KSP) and School Culture at SMPN 10 Madiun significantly contributes to enhancing students’ tolerance and moderate attitudes, which are realized through activities such as “Religious Friday,” religious studies sessions, and interactive technology-based learning methods; 2) The implementation of religious moderation values to enhance students’ tolerance at SMPN 10 Madiun is integrated not only into the curriculum including intracurricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities aligned with the Profile of Pancasila Students but also into school culture through routine practices such as Religious Friday and religious study forums; 3) The implication of this integration shows that many students have demonstrated increased tolerance, empathy, and respect for diversity. This is largely due to the school community’s consistent implementation of religious moderation values for instance, through the Laka Lanting program (Classical Services and Anti-Bullying Counseling) initiated by the school counselor.
