The success of TB treatment depends heavily on patient compliance with long-term therapy, which lasts at least six months. As PMOs for TB patients, family members are expected to ensure that patients take their medications on schedule, but they often lack a sufficient understanding of their roles and responsibilities. This study aims to analyze the effect of tuberculosis education using video media on the support of Medication Companions (PMOs) in the Widodaren Community Health Center work area.
This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-posttest design, with a sample of 30 PMOs at the Widodaren Community Health Center. Data collection was conducted by administering pre-test and post-test PMO support questionnaires, as well as video education. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.
The results showed that before the video education, 17 PMOs (56.7%) provided negative support, and after the video education, 23 PMOs (76.7%) provided positive support for tuberculosis patients in accompanying them in taking their medication. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.002, thus concluding that H1 is accepted, namely, there is an effect of video education on PMO support in the Widodaren Community Health Center work area.
The level of adherence of pulmonary tuberculosis patients to regular treatment is influenced by family support, which will increase patient motivation to take medication regularly, which is essential for optimal recovery. Emotional support from family/PMOs is essential for pulmonary tuberculosis patients because the PMO's role is to encourage pulmonary tuberculosis patients to take their medication regularly and remind them to check their sputum culture at the appointed time. With good PMO performance, patients are more motivated to take their medication regularly.
