Abstract

Fatigue is a critical risk factor in the mining industry, affecting workers’
concentration, communication, and overall safety. This study examines the
communication strategies used to manage and control fatigue among mining
workers. Using a descriptive qualitative approach through observations and
document review the study explores how communication practices influence
fatigue prevention in daily operations. The results show that safety briefings, fatigue
reporting systems, and effective supervisor–operator communication play a key
role in increasing awareness and reducing human error. Clear and consistent
communication helps workers identify fatigue symptoms and encourages timely
reporting. This study concludes that structured, continuous, and participatory
communication strategies are essential components of fatigue control in mining
environments. Enhancing supervisors’ communication competence, providing
more engaging safety communication media, and developing accessible reporting
systems are crucial to strengthening the implementation of the Fatigue Management
System (FMS).
