Low birth weight (LBW) is defined as a baby weighing less than 2500 grams, regardless of gestational age. The purpose of this case study is to provide nursing care for a low birth weight infant with a risk of nutritional deficit.
Nursing care for low birth weight infants with nursing problems of nutritional deficit risk was carried out at Muhammadiyah Ponorogo General Hospital in the Perinatology Room with patient By.A from August 14, 2025 to August 16, 2025. The methods used in this nursing care include assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. In the nursing diagnosis, namely the risk of nutritional deficit. Based on the data analysis, the intervention used was nutritional monitoring by identifying the ability to swallow food, identifying changes in body weight, weighing body weight, doing oral motor exercise.
The evaluation results obtained from By.A's nursing care included an increased rooting reflex, an increased sucking reflex, an increased swallowing reflex, increased weight gain, and increased feeding frequency. This enabled the patient to reduce and prevent the risk of nutritional deficits.
