Abstract

Ecopesantren is a program within Islamic boarding schools that combines religious values with environmental awareness. This program also serves as one of the efforts of pesantren to achieve economic independence through productive and environmentally friendly activities. This study aims to explain the implementation, obstacles, and strategies for applying human resource management in increasing foundation income through the ecopesantren program at Darul Falah Islamic Boarding School Sukorejo, Ponorogo. The method used in this study was qualitative field research. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The informants consisted of the foundation secretary, male and female teachers managing the ecopesantren program, and students directly involved in ecopesantren activities, including OSDA administrators and Dafa Farming School members. The data were analyzed descriptively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
The results of the study reveal that the ecopesantren program has been implemented sustainably and integrated into various pesantren activities, such as waste management, greening programs, energy conservation, organic fertilizer production, and agricultural activities through Dafa Farming School. The program has also produced a flagship product, Pink Rice, which has contributed additional income to the foundation. In addition, student involvement in these activities has provided benefits in the form of improved skills, responsibility, and entrepreneurial spirit. The analysis indicates that human resource management plays an important role as the main driving force behind the success of the program through the functions of identification, recruitment, training and development, performance appraisal, employee rights, work relations, and career development. The strategies implemented include cadre formation through OSDA, skills training, environmental education, motivation, comparative studies, and cooperation with external parties. The obstacles faced include the lack of consistency among some students, operational cost needs, and product marketing that has not yet been optimal. Based on the findings, the ecopesantren program has contributed to increasing the foundation’s income, although it remains supplementary and has not yet become the main source of revenue. Therefore, continuous strengthening of human resource management is needed so that the economic potential of the pesantren can be developed more optimally in the future.
