Pneumonia is an acute lower respiratory tract infection that often occurs in children and can cause problems with ineffective airway clearance due to accumulation of secretions, increased respiratory frequency, and impaired gas exchange. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be done to help improve respiratory function is the balloon blowing exercise technique. This technique aims to increase alveolar ventilation, strengthen respiratory muscles, help mobilize secretions, and reduce respiratory frequency in children with pneumonia. The aim of this study was to determine the application of the balloon blowing exercise technique to reduce respiratory frequency in children with pneumonia with ineffective airway clearance nursing problems at RSU Aisyiyah Ponorogo.
This research uses a case study method with a nursing process approach which includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation and nursing evaluation. Intervention is carried out by providing regular balloon blowing exercises according to nursing procedures. The results of the application showed a decrease in respiratory frequency, reduced shortness of breath, a decrease in additional breath sounds, and an increase in the child's ability to expel secretions after the balloon blowing exercise. This intervention also helps increase lung ventilation and gradually improve the child's breathing pattern.
The conclusion of this study is that the application of the balloon blowing exercise technique is effective in helping to reduce respiratory frequency in children with pneumonia who have ineffective airway clearance nursing problems. This technique can be used as a non-pharmacological therapy that is easy, safe, and can be applied in nursing care for children with pneumonia.
