Abstract
ABSTRACT
Keywords: Classical fiqh text study, religiosity, value internalization, non-formal Islamic education, mosque.
This study was motivated by the need to optimize the function of the mosque as a center for non-formal Islamic education in enhancing community religiosity through the study of classical fiqh texts. The fiqh study program at Nurul Hidayah Grand Mosque, Jatiyoso District, was initiated in response to the limited understanding of Islamic teachings among community members, particularly in matters of worship (ibadah) and social transactions (muamalah). This study aims to: (1) describe the implementation of the fiqh text study as an effort to enhance community religiosity; (2) analyze the mechanism of value internalization and the implications of the fiqh study for improving community religiosity; and (3) identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting the implementation of the fiqh study. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The research was conducted at Nurul Hidayah Grand Mosque, Jatiyoso District, Karanganyar Regency. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The trustworthiness of the data was ensured through source and technique triangulation.
The findings reveal that: (1) the fiqh study was implemented systematically using the tahlili (sorogan) method, which involved reading the classical text, translating it, explaining its meaning, reinforcing it with evidence from the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and conducting interactive question-and-answer sessions, thereby improving participants' religious understanding; (2) the value internalization process occurred through the stages of value transformation, value transaction, and transinternalization, leading to improvements in the dimensions of religious belief, worship practices, religious experience, religious knowledge, and socio-religious behavior; and (3) the supporting factors included participants' strong motivation to seek religious knowledge, family support, well-structured learning materials, competent instructors, communicative teaching methods, adequate mosque facilities, and a conducive learning environment. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors consisted of foreign cultural influences, negative stereotypes toward religious study circles, limited public awareness of the importance of Islamic learning, weather conditions, occupational responsibilities, and the age and health conditions of some participants. This study concludes that the study of classical fiqh texts plays a significant role as an effective non-formal Islamic educational medium in enhancing community religiosity through the continuous internalization of Islamic values.
