Abstract

Self-confidence is an attitude or belief in one’s own abilities. Confident people do not easily feel anxious when taking action, feel free to do what they want, and take responsibility for all their actions. Children with low self-confidence are more likely to become targets of bullying. This study aims to determine the relationship between bullying incidents and self-confidence in children of elementary school age at SDN 2 Poko in Ponorogo Regency. This study employed a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used was total sampling, with a sample of 42 respondents. Data were collected using the bullying questionnaire (OBVQ) and a self-confidence questionnaire, then analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. The result of this study indicate that (57,1%) of majority respondents experienced moderate-level bullying, while the majority (61,9%) had moderate-level of self-confidence. The Spearman Rank test showed a correlation coefficient of p value = <0,001 and r = -0,527, indicating that there is a relationship between bullying incidents and self-confidence. Cooperation is needed from schools, teachers, and parents in preventing and handling bullying to create a safe school atmosphere and help develop self-confidence in children.
