ABSTRACT
Pain is one of the clinical manifestations frequently complained of by dyspepsia patients and has the potential to hinder daily activities and reduce quality of life. Warm compresses are a non-pharmacological intervention that can help reduce pain. This study aims to analyze the effect of warm compresses on reducing pain levels in dyspepsia patients in the Wijayakusuma Ward of Dr. Soedono Regional General Hospital, East Java Province. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 30 respondents with a purposive sampling technique. Pain levels were measured before and after the intervention using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) instrument with a scale of 0-10 (0 = no pain, 1-3 = mild, 4-6 = moderate, 7-10 = severe), data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that before the intervention, most respondents experienced moderate pain, namely 24 respondents (80.0%). After the administration of warm compresses, almost all respondents were in the no pain category, namely 28 respondents (93.3%). Statistical analysis showed a W value of 465 with p
<0.001 (α = 0.05), indicating that warm compresses significantly reduced pain levels in dyspepsia patients. Warm compresses have the potential to be used as a non-pharmacological intervention to help reduce pain in dyspepsia patients. Further research is recommended to use a control group, involve a larger sample size, use an electric heating pad with automatic temperature control to maintain a constant temperature for 15 minutes of intervention, and conduct regular temperature monitoring during compress application. Furthermore, further research can examine other factors that may influence pain reduction to obtain more comprehensive results.
