The learning of Al-Qur'an Hadith at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo still faces a gap between students' cognitive understanding and the actualization of religious values in daily life. Students are able to read and memorize verses, yet have not fully demonstrated religious character such as discipline, honesty, and responsibility. This study aims to describe the learning strategy of Al-Qur'an Hadith in fostering students' religious character, analyze its implications encompassing moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral behavior, and identify the challenges in its implementation.
This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the madrasah principal, Al-Qur'an Hadith teacher, and three students, as well as observation and documentation. Data analysis utilized the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, with validity verified through source and technique triangulation.
The findings reveal that the learning strategy is implemented through three stages: planning that integrates religious character values into objectives, materials, methods, and media; implementation combining teacher-centered and student-centered methods with religious habituation such as Qur'an recitation, congregational prayer, and memorization sessions; and continuous evaluation covering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The strategy positively impacts students' moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral behavior. Challenges include limited time for individual mentoring, administrative burden, heterogeneity of Qur'an reading abilities, and variations in family support, addressed through local content of Tahfidz, peer tutoring programs, and socialization to parents.
