Injury due to bleeding is one of the emergency conditions in children that requires
fast and appropriate first aid to prevent complications. Pressure bandaging is one
of the first aid techniques for controlling bleeding, but mothers' skills in performing
pressure bandaging still need to be improved through education. This study aims to
determine the effect of education on mothers' skills in handling bleeding-related
injury emergencies in children at Posyandu Wijaya Kusuma, Kauman Village,
within the working area of Puskesmas Ponorogo Selatan. This study used a pre
experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study
population consisted of 28 mothers with preschool-age children at Posyandu
Wijaya Kusuma, Kauman Village, with a sample of 28 respondents selected using
the total sampling technique. Data were collected using a pressure bandaging skills
observation sheet and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a
significance level of α < 0.05. The results showed that before education was given,
the majority of respondents were in the less skilled category, namely 23 respondents
(82.1%); after education was given, the majority of respondents were in the skilled
category, namely 25 respondents (89.3%). The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed
a P value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that there is an effect of education on
mothers' skills in handling bleeding-related injury emergencies in children.
Education through lecture methods, demonstration, and booklet media effectively
improved mothers' skills in first aid for bleeding-related injuries in children and
can be applied as a form of education at community health centers (puskesmas) and
integrated health posts (posyandu). However, this study has limitations in the
implementation of the education, so further research is recommended to use more
varied education methods with a larger number of respondents and a wider regional
coverage.
