This study aims to describe the implementation of moral education through extracurricular activities at an Islamic Elementary School (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah) and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. Moral education is an essential aspect of shaping students' character, and extracurricular activities serve as a strategic medium that enables the practical development of moral values.
This study employed a qualitative field study method. Data were collected through interviews with four informants, observations, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model.
The researchers' findings are as follows: (1) The implementation of character education through the tahfizh (Quranic memorization) extracurricular program demonstrates that the program is not solely focused on achieving Quranic memorization goals but also serves as a medium for cultivating noble character (akhlaqul karimah) in students. (2) The moral values fostered through the tahfizh extracurricular activity include religiosity, discipline, honesty, patience, and responsibility, as well as an attitude of respect and courtesy toward teachers and peers. (3) Supporting factors include the madrasah's commitment to establishing tahfizh as a flagship program, the role of teachers as both mentors and role models, the practice of consistent habituation, and an integrated evaluation process involving teachers, homeroom teachers, and parents. Conversely, inhibiting factors include variations in students' memorization abilities and character traits, time constraints, and suboptimal support from some parents in reinforcing these habits at home.
