Abstract
English is a widely spoken and written language around the world. The wide spread of English was mixed with the culture of different geographical context around the world and forming new varieties of English namely World Englishes. The introduction of World Englishes means to encourage non-English-speaking countries to accept other varieties of English and confidently speaks their own version of English. This study was aimed to find out the English education students’ awareness of World Englishes in the process of language learning, what they do toward their awareness of World Englishes, and their learning sources World Englishes Knowledge. The study was conducted at Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo with students of English education department from the first year to the fourth year as the subject of the research. A mixed method was used as the research design of the study. This study used questionnaire and interview as the research instruments to collect the data. The finding of the study shows that 73% of students has a high awareness of World Englishes in the process of language learning. The students were also moved away from the idea of native-speakerism and learn to accept other varieties of English around the world. They were also confident in their own accent that is the Indonesian English. However, students were still hesitant to accept Englishes outside from the inner circle in their language learning. The study also revealed that 27 students learn about World Englishes from lecturer or World Englishes subject and 11 students learn from social media.
