Abstract

Key Word: English Teaching Strategies, Manpower Agency This research aims to investigate the English teaching strategies applied in learning of speaking at Eka Management, one of manpower recruitment agencies of Ponorogo. Eka Management stood under the license and certified by the minister and DISNAKER. Eka Management also has the special things in preparing the labor such as the good discipline, effective class, laboratory, certified instructor, sufficient tools for practice and materials that reserved as good as possible by the instructor. The importance of English teaching strategies in Eka Management were to make easy the student’s learning of speaking process. English teacher of Singapore class had the difficulties in learning speaking because the students were in the age of more than 20 years old that they could not receive the material as good as possible as the student that sat on formal school. In general, this research is to find and answer of “what the strategies were applied in Eka Management, manpower recruitment agency of Ponorogo”. The method of this research was qualitative method. The descriptive qualitative method used in presenting the result of data analysis. The subject of this research was one of English teacher in Eka Management, manpower recruitment agency of Ponorogo. The data collecting technique used were observation and interview. The data analysis for the English teaching strategy was proposed by John Creswell (2009: 121). In general, the teacher prepared the material as good as possible before learning process. In another hand, the teacher also prepared the other ways to make the class more interested, such as preparing some songs, games and role play. This way actually gave good effect for the students in learning process. They felt more interesting and active in the class. Even though, some students were not too active in learning of speaking. They felt so shy to speak actually. So, the teacher also applied the discussion in learning process. In another hand, they always discussed a difficult material of learning. It was one of the ways to get good understanding easily. Here, the teacher found the student’s problem in speaking class, they had limited in the vocabularies and also less confident in speaking. The student should practice more not only in the class, but also in daily activity. Then, the teacher should provide some strategies or the other methods such as using games, discussion, role play, and memorizing in learning speaking to improve the student speaking skill
