Abstract

Key Words: Writing Skill, Number Head Together Method In English we can use method as a tool to improve students’ skill. It is arranged in order to help the students to develop the ideas of the topic. In accordance to the fact above, the statement of problem in this study is: How can the use of Number Head Together improve students’ writing skill. The purpose of this study is to find out whether by using number head together (NHT) method can improve student’s writing skill at the first grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Ponorogo in the academic year of 2016/2017. The research was conducted in two cycles. The writer used three research instruments. There are observation, questionnaire and test. The research was done in SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Ponorogo started on 19th October 2016 until 27th October 2016. The subject of this research is class 10 AK (Akuntansi) consists of 18 students. The result of observation and questionnaire in cycle 1 can be concluded that the students were still confused about understanding of grammar and vocabulary. But, in cycle 2 the students were in good response. They looked so enthusiast, enjoying and interested when teaching learning process used the method. Besides, on test of first cycle, the students obtained an average score 66.55. The mean is lower than the target learning mastery is 70. But, after the researcher made improvements in the second cycle, the score is increasing to average value of 74. The result of questionnaire in the first cycle was 67.87%, and in the second cycle was 80, 37%. The esult of observation in the first cycle was 55%, and in the second cycle was 80%. It can be concluded, that the teaching writing by using Number Head Together Method can improve students’ writing skill. Therefore, teacher should use variation teaching Method in order to improve students’ English writing skill and the students will become interested in English lesson.
