Abstract

Reading was one of language’s skill considered as the significant skills in learning process. Based on data of the primarily research at eighth grade of SMPN 1 Balong , the researcher found many students eight grade F class still difficult in comprehending English text. The purpose of research was to improve the student’s reading comprehension by using POSSE (Predict-Organize-Search-Summarize-Evaluate) strategy. The researcher was employed the classroom action research. The steps of this research were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In this research researcher used three instruments: observation check list, questionnaire, and test to measure student achievement and to know student response after implementation of POSSE strategy in reading comprehension learning. The result test of first cycle showed that six students or 20% got under score minimum. Meanwhile, in second cycle revealed all students of eighth grade F class or 100% passed minimum score. In addition, researcher found many students were more active and confidence after implementing POSSE strategy in teaching reading comprehension. It displayed that from the result of observation was 60.41% to 85.25%. Furthermore result of questionnaire displayed that the teaching reading comprehension by using POSSE strategy was very interesting and many students agreed that POSSE strategy helped to them increased their independent and confidence. It displayed that result questionnaire was 74.24 % in first cycle to 81% in second cycle. Based on finding data from three instruments, researcher concluded that the implementation POSSE strategy was successful to improve the student’s reading comprehension at eight grade F class.
