Abstract

The phenomenon of early marriage is commonly found in Indonesia, one of which is in Ponorogo, East java. The causes of this phenomenon include low educatation, arranged marriages by parents, premital pregnancy, or their own desires. Early marriages has an impact on psychological aspects such as depression. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationshop between marital background and the psychological and early marriage couples. This type of research uses a correlative method with a cross-sectional approach with a population of 230 and a sample of 38 teenagers who marry early in 2020-2021 in Ngrayun Village, Cepoko Village, and Selur Village, Ngrayun District which were taken pusposively with data instrument using questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using Chi Square statistical test with a P Value (0,000) < (0,05). The result of study found that out of 38 respondents 73,3% were married of their own accord, 65,8% had good psychological well-being, and 7,9% had mild depression. As many as 18,4% of them were married because they were arranged in an arranged marriage with 18,4% having good psychology. A total of 7,9% were married because they had a premital pregnancy, 2,6% had mild depression, and 5,3% has moderate depression. The conclusion of this study is that H1 is accepted, which means that tehere is a relationship between marital background and the psychology of early marriage couples in Cepoko Village, Ngrayun Village, and Selur Village, Ngrayun District. The KUA Ngrayun and parents need to increase knowledge about the ideal age of marriage and knowledge relate to the impact of early marriage so that they can consider early marriage for teenagers who want to get married at the age of <19 years old.
