Older adults experience a decline in their ability to perform self-care activities, which may affect their health status, including blood pressure. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-care activities and blood pressure among older adults participating in the Prolanis Program in Sooko Village, Sooko District, Ponorogo Regency.
This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design involving 55 older adults selected through purposive sampling from a population of 120 Prolanis participants. Self-care activities were measured using the Appraisal of Self-Care Agency-Revised (ASAS-R) questionnaire, while blood pressure was measured using a sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05.
The results showed that 56.4% of the respondents had adequate self-care activities, 47.3% had normal blood pressure, and 9.1% had adequate self-care activities but abnormal blood pressure. The Chi-Square test yielded a p-value of 0.851 (p > 0.05), indicating that there was no significant relationship between self-care activities and blood pressure among older adults.
In conclusion, blood pressure in older adults is influenced not only by self-care activities but also by other factors. Therefore, older adults are encouraged to maintain self-care activities to support their overall health.
