Technological advancements in the era of exponential change and the emergence of the Society 5.0 framework have broadened the objectives of education beyond knowledge acquisition to include the development of life skills and the internalization of Islamic values. The Deep Learning approach offers an alternative pedagogical framework for fostering learning experiences that are meaningful, mindful, and joyful. This study aims to examine the planning, implementation, and outcomes of life skills and Islamic values education through the application of the Deep Learning approach at Al-Iman Islamic Boarding School for Girls in Ponorogo.
This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research was conducted at Al-Iman Islamic Boarding School for Female in Ponorogo. Data were collected through non-participant observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis involving school leaders, the head of student affairs, teachers, dormitory supervisors, and students. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was established through source and methodological triangulation.
The findings indicate that: (1) The planning of life skills and Islamic values education is implemented in an integrated manner through instructional programs, student care systems, student organization activities, the habituation of worship practices, and daily life in the boarding school, all of which are designed according to the principles of meaningful, mindful, and joyful learning; (2) Implementation is carried out through classroom instruction, daily boarding school routines, student organization activities, assigned duties and responsibilities, worship practices, discussions, presentations, evaluations, and student mentoring; and (3) The outcomes demonstrate that students developed independence, discipline, responsibility, teamwork, critical thinking, adaptability, and social awareness. In addition, students demonstrated stronger internalization of Islamic values related to faith, worship, and character and morality, along with an increased capacity for self-reflection and awareness of applying Islamic values in their daily lives.
