Hypertension is a non-communicable disease and a leading cause of early death worldwide. Non-pharmacological therapies like soaking your feet in red ginger water (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) can be used to control blood pressure through vasodilation effects. This study aimed to find out the effect of soaking feet in red ginger water on blood pressure changes in people with hypertension at the Posyandu in Singkil Village under the Balong Health Center work area.
This study used a quantitative method with a Pre-Experimental design using a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population in this study was all hypertensive patients in Singkil Village, totaling 122 people, with a sample size of 15 elderly respondents at the Krajan Elderly Posyandu who met the inclusion criteria through Purposive Sampling. The intervention was carried out for 5 consecutive days with a duration of 15 minutes per day using 50 grams of red ginger in 1.5 liters of warm water at a temperature of 39-40 ℃.
Data analysis was done using the Paired Samples T Test. The results before the intervention (pre-test) showed an average systolic blood pressure of 151.493 mmHg and diastolic of 85.933 mmHg. After the intervention (post-test), the average systolic blood pressure dropped to 142.827 mmHg and diastolic dropped to 81.947 mmHg. The bivariate test results showed a t-value of 19.944 for systolic and 5.501 for diastolic, with p-values for both < 0.000, α < 0.05.
Discussion about red ginger foot soak therapy has been shown to significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive patients at the Singkil Village Posyandu. This therapy is effective as one of the non-pharmacological interventions that can be done on your own for managing hypertension.
