Traditional games are part of our cultural heritage that hold educational value and have the potential to support early childhood development. However, technological advancements and changes in children’s play patterns have led to traditional games being introduced less frequently in educational settings. On the other hand, early childhood education teachers still face limitations in accessing teaching materials that can systematically integrate traditional games based on local culture into co-curricular activities. This study aims to: (1) develop a Javanese-Script-Based Traditional Games Co-Curricular Teaching Module and (2) evaluate the feasibility of the Javanese-Script-Based Traditional Games Co-Curricular Teaching Module at Tunggur Slogohimo Kindergarten in Wonogiri.
This study employed a research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects consisted of subject matter experts, media experts, teachers, and students in Group B, aged 5–6 years, at Tunggur Slogohimo Kindergarten in Wonogiri. Data collection techniques included interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods with the Likert scale and the Guttman scale. The product developed was a co-curricular teaching module containing sixteen traditional games based on Javanese folklore, namely kitiran, cublak-cublak suweng, slompret, sluku-sluku bathok, plinthengan, jamuran, wayangan rumput, gobag bunder, ana lintang kadhayohan, jathil numpak kapal, tumbaran, keplok ame-ame, pot, pasaran sekul pecel, soyang, and ancak-ancak alis.
The research results show that the developed module received a “highly suitable” rating based on the validation results from subject matter experts (92.94%) and media experts (95%). The results of the small-scale pilot test showed a 96% teacher response rate and a 90.62% student response rate. The results of the large-scale pilot test showed a 100% response rate from both teachers and all students. These results indicate that the module falls into the “highly suitable” category: it is easy for teachers to use, enhances student engagement in learning, and receives positive feedback from both teachers and students. Thus, the Co-curricular Teaching Module on Traditional Games Based on Javanese Texts is deemed highly suitable for use as a guide for implementing co-curricular activities in early childhood education.
