This research is initiated by the phenomenon of nurse workload at RSUD Dr. Harjono Ponorogo, where nurses face significant responsibilities and highly demanding patient safety standards. The unpredictable work environment and high service expectations render nurses vulnerable to psychological pressure. Emotional exhaustion is a syndrome that can decrease work efficiency and motivation, as well as increase the risk of medical errors. This study aims to determine the relationship between workload and the level of emotional exhaustion among nurses at RSUD Dr. Harjono Ponorogo.
The methods used employed a correlational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study consisted of 228 nurses in the Inpatient Installation of RSUD Dr. Harjono Ponorogo, with a sample of 70 respondents determined using Slovin's formula and proportional random sampling techniques. The research instruments used included the NASA-TLX questionnaire to measure workload and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) to measure emotional exhaustion. Data were analyzed using the Spearman's Rank test.
The results showed that the majority of respondents had a workload in the medium category, totaling 70. Meanwhile, emotional exhaustion was in the high category, also totaling 70. The results using Spearman's Rank correlation yielded a p-value of 0.000, which is smaller than α 0.05.
It can be concluded that there is a relationship between workload and the level of emotional exhaustion among nurses at RSUD Dr. Harjono Ponorogo. It is recommended that the hospital conduct a workload evaluation to minimize emotional exhaustion among nursing staff.
