EFFECTIVENESS OF VIDEO EDUCATION TO IMPROVE STROKE
LITERACY IN PREVENTING STROKE
At the Tresna Werdha Social Home in Magetan

Stroke is a non-communicable disease that can cause death and disability,
especially in the elderly. Low stroke literacy can result in elderly people being
less able to understand risk factors, signs and symptoms, stroke treatment, and
prevention strategies. One effort that can be made to improve stroke literacy in
the elderly is through education using video media. This study aims to determine
the effectiveness of video education in improving stroke literacy as an effort to
prevent stroke in the elderly at the Tresna Werdha Social Home in Magetan.
This study used a quantitative, approach with a quasi-experimental design
using a pre-test and post-test methods. This study involved 60 elderly people
living at the Tresna Werdha Social Home in Magetan. Sampling was carried out
using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a Stroke
Knowledge Test (SKT) questionnaire before and after the video education
session. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, was used to analyze the data.
The results of the study showed an increase in stroke literacy levels in the
elderly after being given education using video media. The Wilcoxon Signed
Rank Test yielded a p-value of 0.000 with a significance level of α = 0.05 (p <
0.05). Therefore, video education is effective in improving stroke literacy among
the elderly at the Tresna Werdha Social Home in Magetan. Respondents are
expected to improve their stroke literacy by understanding risk factors, signs and
symptoms, stroke procedures or treatments, and stroke prevention strategies to
prevent stroke.
