This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Islamic Education (PAI) learning based on Google Workspace for Education on students’ learning interest and learning outcomes in Grade V on the topic of Hajj at SDN Manguharjo Madiun. This study was motivated by the relatively low level of students’ learning interest and learning outcomes, indicating the need for innovative learning that utilizes digital technology to make the learning process more interactive and engaging.
This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The population consisted of all Grade V students at SDN Manguharjo Madiun, with a sample of 39 students comprising 20 students in the experimental group and 19 students in the control group. The experimental group received learning through Google Workspace for Education, while the control group received conventional learning. Data on learning interest were collected using a 25-item questionnaire, while learning outcomes were measured through pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and learning improvement analysis through N-Gain calculation.
The results showed that the students’ mean learning interest score was 103.21, which was categorized as high. The mean pretest score was 62.37 for the control group and 63.00 for the experimental group, indicating relatively similar initial abilities. After the treatment, the mean posttest score of the control group increased to 76.58, while that of the experimental group reached 88.00. The improvement in learning outcomes in the experimental group was 25.00 points, higher than the 14.21-point improvement in the control group. The N-Gain analysis showed a mean score of 0.39 for the control group (moderate category) and 0.68 for the experimental group (moderate-to-high category). Therefore, PAI learning based on Google Workspace for Education was effective in improving students’ learning interest and learning outcomes on the topic of Hajj at the elementary school level.
