Al-Kautsar Islamic Boarding School in Dendang, East Tanjung Jabung, implements an integrated curriculum model combining salafiyah (traditional), tahfiz Al-Qur'an (Qur'anic memorization), modern, and national curricula. This study aims to analyze the form of curriculum integration applied, its implementation process, and its contribution to addressing the demands of modern society.
This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with leadership, teachers, and students (santri), as well as academic and administrative documentation studies. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was tested using source and method triangulation techniques.
The results show that curriculum integration is executed through the fusion of four main components: the salafiyah curriculum (mastery of classical Islamic
texts/kitab kuning), tahfiz Al-Qur'an, modern curriculum (foreign language proficiency, leadership, discipline), and the national curriculum (standard academic competence). Its implementation is supported by a 24-hour integrated learning system, structured time management, and character building rooted in boarding school life. This model successfully produces graduates who maintain a balance between religious and general knowledge, foreign language skills, Qur'anic memorization, and an adaptive character.
Challenges encountered include limitations in human resources, infrastructure, and a high learning workload for students. Curriculum integration at Al-Kautsar Islamic Boarding School serves as an educational innovation capable of meeting the needs of modern society without relinquishing the identity and scholarly tradition of the pesantren. This model carries implications as an alternative for developing adaptive boarding school curricula in response to advances in science, technology, and future workforce demands.
